Volunteer

There is a tremendous need for volunteers in every non-profit organization, and Wendell Foster's Campus for Developmental Disabilities is no different. From simple socialization with the people on campus to actually conducting group or community activities, it takes hands-on support for our people to have maximum life experiences. As a volunteer, you will be trained, provide invaluable support, and leave every day with a feeling of over-whelming satisfaction as you see the smiles of people that truly need you.

Many volunteer opportunities are available, including:

Recreation and Leisure

  • Outdoor games and adaptive sports activities
  • Picnics, Crafts, or Cooking Classes
  • Holiday Parties
  • Play or teach music, visit or talk
  • Start a pet visitation program, maintain an aquarium

Community

  • Help a resident find a church home
  • Legislative Advocacy
  • Enable a resident to join your club
  • Go shopping
  • Speakers Bureau

Environmental

  • Landscaping and gardening
  • Build wheelchair paths
  • Keep grounds clean
  • Special housekeeping/cleaning projects
  • Paint, repair and other maintenance jobs

Educational

  • Research potential new programs and treatments
  • Tutor a public school student
  • College internships
  • Service and honor club projects
  • Scout projects

Organizational Support

  • Photograph residents and events
  • Entertainment at special events
  • Cook/Cater for meetings and events
  • Fund Raising Volunteer
  • WFC History compilation project

Other

  • Volunteer Personal Advocate/Friend to individual
  • Guardianship

There is a wonderful, mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life (happiness, freedom, peace of mind) are always attained by giving them to someone else.
